Visions of Escaflowne
The series focuses on the heroine, Hitomi Kanzaki, and her adventures after she is transported to the world of Gaea, a mysterious planet where she can see Earth and its moon in the sky. On Gaea, Earth is known as the Mystic Moon or "Phantom Moon" (Œ¶‚ÌŒŽ, Maboroshii no tsuki?). Hitomi's latent psychic powers are enhanced on Gaea and she quickly becomes embroiled in the conflicts between the Zaibach Empire and the several peaceful countries that surround it. The conflicts are brought about by the Zaibach Empire's quest to revive the legendary power from the ancient city of Atlantis. As the series progresses, many of the characters' pasts and motivations, as well as the history of Atlantis and the true nature of the planet Gaea, are revealed.
The year is in the 1990s, and this girl named Hitomi likes this guy named Amano Senpai (Teacher Senpai). So she asks him if he would give her her first kiss if she could break 13 seconds in the 100-meter dash. He agrees. She asks him to time her with a pendant that sways fully each second. As she is running, (it is now night time), Van Fanel materializes in front of her and pushes her aside. Talking in a tongue that nobody can understand but Hitomi, he says, "It is coming too..."- then a dragon comes. After a long fight with the dragon, Hitomi sees the future- that the dragon will kill Van. She warns him, but when he doesn't thank her she gets upset and all of a sudden they dematerialize and go to an invisible world.
The people on this planet can see the earth but can not get to it. The earth appears to be only half the distance as the moon is to us. Anyhow, earlier, after Van killed the dragon, he opened up it's chest and pulled a dragon energist out. These supposedly have a huge amount of power that is easily converted. These are what they use to power their mech, or Guymelef.
Escaflowne (movie)
The plot of the movie is similar to the television show, but retold in a way that could fit in a two hour movie as opposed to a one season TV show. Most of the characters present in the TV show are also present in the movie, although many of the character designs are changed and in some cases bear little or no resemblance to the corresponding TV show characters. The only major character seen in the movie and not seen in the TV show was Sora, an advisor to Folken.
Escaflowne: The Movie is an Alternate retelling of the Escaflowne series. In this movie version, Hitomi Kanzaki is a depressed teenager, detached from other people and life itself. She goes on believing that she should just fade away. However, her depression and misery summons Lord Folken, and whisks her away to the world of Gaea.
Gaea is a world hidden behind Earth's moon, and is in the middle of an ongoing war against Folken's forces. Many of the inhabitants believe that Hitomi is the Wing Goddess (capable of bringing out the legendary Dragon Armor called Escaflowne). She is also prophesized to bring about an ultimate outcome to the war and the very fate of Gaea itself.
Hitomi meets a warrior named Van who fights to get revenge on Folken for the destruction of his Kingdom. Hitomi joins Van and his companions on a quest to battle Folken and help Hitomi fulfill her destiny as the Wing Goddess.
