Cluster of narrow alleyways and twittens packed with antique shops. Boutiques and restaurants that are the Lanes of Brighton are a great attraction to visitors and ghosts. A nun in a gray habit makes spasmodic appearances. The rather vague figure has been seen near the ‘Old Friends meeting house,’ she disappears near a bricked up archway. Legend has grown up to account for this haunting. It is said that the nun fell hopelessly in love with a soldier who guarded the Priory of St Varholomew and eloped with him but was caught and bricked up within the walls of the building. It is also said that she was a fervent young woman who was so determinedly committed to the religious life that she chose to be confined in a small cell to intensify her supplication and eventually died there.
